To appoint an Architect-led multi-disciplinary Design Team to lead the design of the Berry Brow affordable housing scheme, secure an implementable detailed planning permission and potentially work with the Council through to RIBA Stage 7 of the project, resulting in the handover of the completed scheme.

The procurement of a Design Team to oversee the demolition of two existing tower blocks and the design of a new affordable housing scheme at Berry Brow. This forms part of the High-Rise Programme approved by Cabinet in July 2021.

Background

Following consultation with tenants on the 27^th July 2021 the Council’s Cabinet approved a proposal to demolish the two existing high-rise blocks at Berry Brow and redevelop the site for affordable housing.

This approval included the following recommendation - That authority be delegated to the Strategic Director (Growth and Regeneration) to carry out further work to finalise the designs and schemes and, in consultation with the Service Director (Finance), a financial viability for each scheme relating to the proposed developments and/or works at Holme Park Court and Bishops Court, Berry Brow, and at Buxton House, and implement the schemes as finalised, as referred to above.

The appointment of a Design Team forms a critical part of the project.
