One Tree Planted (2022-23 and 2023-24)

Decision Maker: Service Director - Skills & Regeneration

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

For the third consecutive year White Rose Forest (WRF) has an opportunity to access funding from a global reforestation foundation called One Tree Planted (OTP), for its latest woodland planting schemes.

The eligibility for this funding is based on photographic evidence of trees planted through the WRF programme.

The WRF has submitted a claim for its 2023-24 woodland creation (126,250 new trees) across North and West Yorkshire.

OTP have now verified this claim and agreed to pay the WRF a donation of £71,811.00. This is due to be paid to Kirklees Council between Nov and Dec 2024.

Decision:

A decision has been taken to accept funding from the One Tree Planted (OTP) Foundation which is an American based non-profit, public charity donor, whose mission is to help with global reforestation.

The White Rose Forest (part of Kirklees’ Major Projects Team) is one of England’s Community Forests which has an agreement in place with OTP. This agreement enables Kirklees Council to receive donations from OTP for North and West Yorkshire tree planting schemes supported with grant funding through the WRF programme. The OTP donations will be used to support the revenue cost associated to the ongoing monitoring of the new woodland. There is a requirement by all the WRF funders to continue to monitor the condition of the new woodland for 15 years following the planting. The OTP donation will support the ongoing staff costs of a WRF Legacy Team who will carry these responsibilities.
