The Modern Slavery Statement is a tool for planning, monitoring and reporting on modern slavery due diligence. Whilst currently it is not statutory requirement for the public sector to publish a modern slavery statement Kirklees Council alongside other Local Authorities voluntarily publish an annual statement as good practice and transparency evidencing the commitment to preventing and responding to modern slavery both within its corporate activity and within communities.
The Modern Slavery Statement has been reviewed and refreshed for 2024/25 by Council departments (HR, Legal, Procurement) and by the Communities Service against key areas of due diligence, highlighting good practice and areas where further controls have been implemented to ensure that actions are taken to prevent modern slavery. The responsibility for the co-ordination of the statement sits within the Communities Service and is led by the Safeguarding Partnerships and Modern Slavery Lead Officer.
The 2024/25 Modern Slavery Statement is endorsed by the Councils Executive Leadership Team and approved by the Service Director for Communities & Access Services for publication on the Council’s website and submission on the government register by September end (government deadline).
Delegated decision for the Service Director for Communities & Access Services to approve the annual Modern Slavery Statement.
