Minutes:

The Panel considered a report which outlined an application under section S51 of the Licensing Act 2003, for the Grant of a premises Licence, Sun News, 178 Healey Lane, Batley, WF17 8BN.

The Panel was advised that on the 2nd December 2022, the Licensing Department received an application for the grant of a premises licence for Sun News, 178 Healey Lane, Batley, WF17 8BN.

The licensable activities applied for were as follows:

Sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises

Monday – Sunday 07:00 – 22:00

In response to the application, three ward councillors for the area expressed concern that should the licence be granted, the licensing objectives in respect to public noise and the prevention of crime and disorder would not be achieved.

The Panel was advised that West Yorkshire Police were consulted and raised no concerns regarding alcohol issues and anti-social behaviour in the area.  No representations were made by any of the other Responsible Authorities regarding the application.

The applicant’s representative advised the Panel that the business was a small family run business, where the applicant and his wife had 15 years of experience running small businesses.  The applicant lived next door to the shop and was part of the community.

The Chair read the written submission from the local ward councillors, which outlined concerns regarding the impact another licenced premise selling alcohol would have on the area and the potential increase in anti-social behaviour.

RESOLVED:

That the application for the Grant of a Premises Licence: Sun News, 178 Healey Lane, Batley, WF17 8BN be granted as requested.
