Changes to Parking Permit Charges (Lindley)

Presenting a petition by residents of the Lindley ward who have signed a petition against the councils proposed massive increase to permit parking charges. This petition was open recently and a number of signatories are growing daily. The current system of a one off payment of £15 per car for the length of ownership has been in place for years to cover the cost of administrating the scheme. Under the proposed scheme residents would be expected to pay £50 per permit each year more than tripling the cost in a single year and representing a ten fold increase over the average length a car is kept for 3 years. Residents are enraged by this proposal and cannot see how penalizing people for parking outside their own homes can be justified.

Residents in Lindley are face with particularly difficult challenges as many of the parking permit areas are around the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, busy high streets and local schools.
Comments left on the survey clearly show resident believe this is an unfair and unjustifiable rax on already stretched households as they struggle with so many other pressures in the cost of living crisis that we all face. They clearly articulate how they think this is unfair to people who must pay to park on their street.
