This is a decision to apply annual charges to residential parking permits and permits for Electric Vehicles, as part of measures to generate
Residential Permits
The Council offers 3 types of parking permits for eligible households within resident parking scheme areas, as follows:
Specific Residential Parking Permits (around 5200): currently provided for a one-off fee of £15 and are then valid indefinitely which presents administrative difficulties;
Annual Open Visitor Permits (around 371): currently provided for an annual charge of £15 and;
Open Visitor Permits (around 4313): currently provided free of charge
The decision is to apply an annual charge of £50 for the above 3 types of permit.
This decision is expected to take effect within the next 6 months, taking into account the need for amendments to the TRO and the need to notify affected households.
Electric Vehicle Permits
The Council has offered free permits for Electric Vehicles, which allow free parking in all pay & display areas, since September 2021. This offer was launched as a trial to be reviewed after one year. The decision is that an annual charge of £150 will be applied, to take effect from around September 2023. Existing permits which are valid beyond September 2023 will continue to be valid until they expire at which point the charge will be applied for renewals.
