Outside body

Kirklees Historic Buildings Trust Ltd

Description

Purpose

Kirklees Historic Buildings Trust acts like a development company refurbishing historic buildings which "the market" finds uneconomic.  It buys properties, carries out repairs etc. and then sells them in order to use the receipts to buy the next project.  Acting as a last resort for the building it may have access to grants which are not normally available. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity with decisions being taken by a Council of Management.

Role/ Expectations of Representatives

Knowledge/interest in historic buildings is essential to avoid boredom at the meetings. In addition, knowledge of property refurbishment and the property market would help the Trust make the right decisions.

Meetings/ Time Commitments

The Council of Management normally meets 4 times per year on a Wednesday evening starting at 7:15pm and normally finishes by 9:00pm. In addition, a Project Sub Committee of around 5 persons determined by the Council of Management meets as and when required.
